People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.

For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.

The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.

So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.

today’s fun writing fact: did you know that most writing coaches estimate that it takes around one hour for the average writer to write 1000 words?

I know what you’re thinking — that’s really slow! I can write that in 20 minutes. Right, but that assumes that when you started typing, you knew exactly what you were going to write — every line of dialogue your characters were about to say, every description perfectly pre-planned, etc.

And then you have to go back and edit it. And tag it. And cut out parts that don’t work and add new bits. So by the time you’ve got that “short” fic all ready to go, you’ve probably spent at least two hours on it, maybe more.

So yeah, as an author, I cringe seeing the “this was so short!!” comments on fics, even when they’re well-intentioned. Because someone just took 2+ hours out of their day for something you could read in less than five minutes and be done with.

The next time you see that author put out a 1-2k chapter, remember to do the math! And leave a comment 💜 that’s how you keep those updates coming.

People thinking Gale is not the victim in his story with Mystra are just plain stupid. They are completely missing the entire game's singular theme, the one thing connecting all the main characters, the one word spoken by the Narrator repeatedly:

Taking a break from doomposting to once again ponder the meaning of the chapter from a storytelling point of view. It fails to complete any storyline point previously established. Ochako is still repressing her survivor's guilt and covering it up with fake sweet smiles. Deku and Ochako don't really reach any understanding nor comfort each other after this traumatic experience: Ochako still blames herself for Himiko's death, Izuku has seemingly moved on from Shigaraki's death using it as a learning example on his way forward. The party is random and the cheer is forced. Eri mutilating herself with the help of an adult hero goes unaddressed. The old lady is the only character exhibiting any development but it falls flat because we don't have much reason to care about the character who is not Tenko that she saves. It was Shigaraki who needed saving and didn't get it.

The one thing this chapter achieves is destroying any hope the readers had left. The next chapter is not necessary, judging by how meaningless most of the epilogue chapters have been so far.

But looking at this from another angle, the one thing Horikoshi can do, after killing the remaining embers of our hope, is subvert our expectations.

The only logical conclusion from the nameless boy looking so much like Tenko was obvious, but his appearance had very awkward timing if all the purpose this character has is to show the positive changes in society. He would have fit in the framing of chapter 427, which was focused on the society's opinion about Shigaraki Tomura and how they perceive him. It talks repeatedly about the collective fear of the next Shigaraki resurging and what preventive measures they can take. The old lady, whose character purpose was to not save Tenko, even appears in that chapter! If the positive change was the intended message, why cut her narrative into awkward parts and squeeze the second one in place of Ochako's supposed resolution? And once again, why show the boy so early? He appeared in the chapter that started slowly revealing the fates of the villains, and his appearance was immediately followed by Touya's. The logical connection is obvious. Teasing that not-Tenko character to leave the audience guessing for a month, seems like a red herring, and if the nameless boy being saved by a person who could have saged Tenko and didn't, is just there to fool our expectations, it's an unnecessarily cruel move from the author. He knew what he was doing. Despite his death, the epilogue heavily focuses on Shigaraki Tomura and various people's opinions on whether or not he deserved to be saved. Horikoshi killing him and saving a new barely introduced character in his place seems like a negative answer from the author himself.

Then, again

Shigaraki's death, despite being confirmed by the characters, was not actually shown on screen, with Kurogiri being conveniently close by, very motivated to save him.

So what if the not-Tenko boy is indeed a red herring, whose purpose is to fool the audience for one last time?

Here are some random ideas how this can work:

• not-Tenko is actually Tenko, his memory is just fucked up. The boy's backstory is about being kept imprisoned by his family in the house against his will. Well isn't that awfully convenient, cause you know who else hated being in his house

• Tenko is not the new boy, but he is alive, out there somewhere. Healing, being taken care of by Kurogiri, possibly trying learn using his new quirk. Watching his name being dragged through the mud on the news everyday.

• Tenko reconstructed himself back from the dust wrong, as it was his first time using the new quirk. Maybe he had accidentally merged himself with Kurogiri. Maybe non-Tenko's memories that he shares are his damaged consciousness' rendition of Tenko's actual backstory. Maybe he decided to leave Japan forever and fucked off to America, who even knows, the author clearly doesn't so go wild with your imaginations

New Stream Announcement!

Hey everyone! As some of you may or may not know, besides being a vtuber I'm also a writer! (And editor!)

As anyone who writes (or does anything else creative, for that matter) might know, actually Sitting Down and Doing The Thing can be one of the hardest parts, so in the interest of holding myself accountable, and maybe even creating a space that helps others get their own work down, I've decided to do weekly writing streams! Introducing Friday Night Writes! A chill, cozy streaming time where I'll be working on my writing on stream, with Spirit City: Lofi Beats running in the background! I'll have a pomodoro timer going, with 25 minute sessions (ignore the timer in the screenshot it tells only lies), with 5 minute breaks in between, lofi music, and and background noises consisting of rain, thunder, wind and a fire place!

Feel free to bring your own writing to work on while we all hang out and chat! Not a writer? That's totally fine! Bring your art, bring your homework, bring your dinner and your coziest blanket!

getting really pissy at all the Star Wars cancellations lately

at least we'll have Andor season 2 and i'll watch that Mandalorian movie in some way or another but i'm honestly so tired of all the execs at Disney basically abandoning all their Star Wars shows lately

it's like after the first ep of every new show they release, they immediately give up on it due to right wing bigots on twitter. the worst crowd ever

Book of Boba Fett had so much going for it and there was potential there to make it a well rounded show with teasing out parts of Boba's past while also giving him a future

the Kenobi series was a good interlude and i loved that they brought Ewan and Hayden back to continue their characters. i liked that the focus was on Leia and her relationship with Obi-Wan. sucks that they cut Cody out of it though. we deserved old bickering husbands in the desert

while i didn't watch Ashoka, i know so many people had fun with it who had watched the original Rebels series and enjoyed it as the continuation and adaptation of their series. they should have been given a chance to continue them

Acolyte was a breath of fresh air because it was actually the writers trying something new beyond characters we're already well familiar with

even Mandalorian season 3 had some good moments but you can feel the meddling of execs all over these properties

from bringing Grogu back too soon because they need their cash cow back front and centre and taking time away from Boba's story shows how little faith the Star Wars team has in their own ability to tell fulfilling stories

that and they abandon the people of colour, women, and children in their casts when they're being attacked by trolls online

this is an inherently unsustainable way to manage this franchise and they desperately need to figure their shit out if they want to survive

Multitudes and Considerations in Inherent Insanity

Everyone is a little scared that somewhere in the nauseous pit of their stomach or seeping out the pulling,

inching roots of their hair, that something is wrong, and that they are a little bit lunatic.

Actually, everyone is scared that they aren’t really a lunatic at all,

that they know something, and no one else does, but everyone fears them, or would fear them, that a whisper could unfurl that tightly wound rug and now you’ve done something—how could you?

You talk like your words hold all endings. I can hear it in your consonants and how you walk with the bugs on the floor. A certain type of withdrawn that feels less like hiding, pulling wool over eyes, and rather like suppression.

Everyone fears that everyone else is a lunatic.

The stranger in the eyes of your mother, the arms you’re wrapped in and how cobra tightly they could coil around your throat like hot rubber. Trusting the man on the sidewalk to stay a man on the sidewalk, as inconsequential and unknown as the starlight against him.

Everyone is a crowd, and everyone is a sweltering amorphous spotlight.

This means no one is listening. Sure. This is the logical and synchronous conclusion. We feed the tender doves their seed and they drown themselves in the lake. Infinite cycles of entropy: the Universal Oxymoron. Likewise, the earth holds your footprints and counts your breaths, the neighbor saw you dancing through the red curtains, etcetera. Time goes on and you are not individual, so nothing can happen to You and everything always does.

Dipping the fingers in candle wax, extend them in the shower to watch the sweet rain drip off the ends,

rake them through your hair and act like no one is watching. This is again, true and untrue. You live within a dance, it is sensual, deeply moving, and wholly inescapable.

You cried so hard one time you began to feel a strange fear

that your feelings would snare you, like an overextended joint, locking.

The impending invigoration before a fight, when your father told you your eyes would get stuck as a presumptuous 11 year-old. Staying up so late you shake. The concern is simple,

there is a point of no return and you can reach it.

You know you can reach it. And it feels like you���ll reach it right now. And everyone is watching.

Just a little further and you would’ve sunk the joint in its ball and you’d be stuck. And no one would come to save you.

Everyone is afraid of themselves and of you and can’t tell the difference, and everyone loves you because they are love and

the arm extends and cannot be told apart and you cannot tell why looking out of your car window feels like a spaceship and why

the itch down your throat feels a lot like the time your words went dry on stage and the only thing to catch you was everyone you couldn’t touch. Touch me now, extend your arm, break the seal or brush against it, become moonlight and let the old dog slumber, drift into me, tuck into me and let me have this dance. Please consider dancing.

Still in wayhaven brainrot mood, just making my silly little sketches with my silly little detective and thinking about this particular plot point under the cut.

I am so interested in what your guys opinion on becoming an agent is?? From a reader and character standpoint both. I personally felt that the decision didn't have as much of a weight as i would like it to have?? Like if we had better reasoning than "higher ups want you as an agent because you are cool" i would be so happy. Because for now you can play the most cringe fail detective and still be asked to become an agent?? Why??? Just be honest and tell me the Chamber wants to keep tabs on me and possess more control over what i do lol Becks, don't be shy, just say the truth girlie.

From a character standpoint Lucas is having very bad not good time, because he doesn't like the Agency and their shady ways AT ALL. He also didn't see it for him to continue police work (he actually wanted to quit the job but then he got promoted to a detective and he was like "oh well. It would be kind of bad to leave now". You should have run, my guy). So for him, staying at the station AND becoming an agent are both shit choices. He's gonna be sooo annoyed in the next books and he will make it everyone's problem 😌

Sooooo I gotta brag for a moment about this comment I got from my editor for The Everyday Naturalist, Julie Bennett (who, by the way, is both vice president and executive editor for Ten Speed Press and has the better part of three decades of experience in the publishing industry, and it's absolutely mindblowing that this is the person editing my manuscript O.o ) Anyway, when I got the first round of edits back in May, she opened the email with this:

"First, I have to tell you that this was the cleanest, best written rough draft manuscript I have encountered in all my years of editing. Truly, I felt like I was reading a finished book and it was such a joy! And that’s not even mentioning everything I learned. So thank you for being a wonderful, thoughtful, careful writer :) . I really enjoyed this."

Like. WOW. If I ever needed confirmation of my writing skills, it doesn't get much better than this. It's been over a month since that email landed, we've been through multiple rounds of editing, and I am still floating on that comment.
